Guides and Scouts

In the Federal Republic of Germany, four Scout and Guide Associations belong either to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) with about 10 Mio members, to the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) with about 25 Mio members or to both.

Scouting and Guiding today is: for example ...
having fun and being active in a group of ones own age, and not just consume     ... in the camp, sailing the Baltic sea, at the weekly meeting, during weekend activities, at adventure trips or on hike.
being involved creatively and imaginatively   ... in campaigns against racism, public action, in the 'Action Courage' playing a 'Polit-Game', on women's strike day.
learning about democracy by play    ... in the self-governing group, the council or camp parliament, as group- or unit-leader
caring for people and the community     ... by supporting projects in Rwanda, Benin, Nepal and elsewhere, by integrating handicapped girls and boys into our groups, in volunteering to be leader
living together equally between boys and girls, men and women   ... as girls and boys can act untypically and discuss to their traditional gender roles, in mixed groups or in 'spaces' just for girls or just for boys
being tolerant towards political, social, cultural and personal individuality    ... by integrating children and young people from ethnic minorities, and by contacts and partnerships with Scout and Guide Associations throughout the world
growing by experience and self-training     ... by the motto 'learning by doing'
taking responsibility in one's environment and community. ... by discussing nature and the Creation, in ecology networks, projects and actions, by formulating own interests and participating in youth policy institutions on national and international level.

The BdP is the inter-denominational partner in both Federations. The DPSG is - with its 100.000 members - the largest catholic children- and youth-organization in Germany. The PSG accounts for about 20,000 members nationwide and is part of the International Guiding Movement. The VCP is an association of protestant girls and boys. It is open to young people of other or no faith. For adults, VCP offers a variety of own activities.
